Four Friends started a meadery out of their garage as an experiment with mead making. Eventually they reached a crossroads where they felt the need to share the meads with the world. Thus the motivation and inspiration for Four Fires Meadery was born.
Now, several years later, Four Fires Meadery has become not only a great source of pride and joy for those four friends, but is also the first meadery in Toledo, Ohio. They aim to support and give back to the local community, produce the best possible products with a focus on continual improvement, and to assist and promote the spreading of mead knowledge.
The meadery name derives from the original native tribes of northwest Ohio and the surrounding areas; the Chippewa, the Ottawa and the Potawatomi. In 796 AD the three tribes decided to work together and The Council of Three Fires (tribes) was created. Since there were four friends, they added in the fourth 😉
